At harvest time our technicians and viticulturists monitor the developing
maturity of each of our plots and issue the instruction to harvest each
individual vineyard at the ideal moment. This process takes place in the second
fortnight of October. Our harvest is entirely manual, and the varieties cultivated in our 330 hectares of vineyards are: Red grapes - GARNACHA TINTA DE MONTE (our principal variety), Tempranillo and Syrah (newly introduced); White grape Macabeo. |
The age of our vines means that their yields are naturally quite low. This factor, combined with an altitude of between 650 to 880 metres above sea level, which creates a large temperature differential between night and day, as well as very low rainfall on stony soils with a low content of organic matter, further restrict crop sizes. Currently we harvest in the region of between 1.5 - 2 kilograms per vine. This reduced yield inevitably influences the quality of our wines, allowing us greater aromatic depth, expression and fruit concentration. |
